Thunder wins state Babe Ruth tourney title

SCOTTSBLUFF — The Hastings Klingler Embroidery Thunder won the Nebraska Babe Ruth 14-year-old state championship Sunday, defeating Alliance 7-4 in the title games.
The Thunder will now represent Nebraska in the Midwest Plains Regional in Williston, N.D.
Team members are Jon Blazer, Ben Clausen, Jamison Cockrell, Avery Driscoll, Chris Gerard, Tanner Johnson, Ryan Kern, Brendon Menke, Buzz Niederklein, Alex Panganiban, Lance Schmidt, Brady Staton and Chance Stevenson. Coaches are Tate Mays and Ben Jones.
Sunday
Hastings 7, Alliance 4
Highlights — Alex Panganiban hit a walk-off three-man homer in the bottom of the seventh to give the Thunder the win. With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Brady Staton hit a pinch-hit bases-clearing double to tie the game. Tanner Johnson pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the win. Lance Schmidt pitched the first six innings, striking out 8.
Saturday
Hastings 7, Alliance 4
Alex Panganiban pitched a complete-game four-hitter to pick up the win. He struck out eight Alliance batters. Jon Blazer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Avery Driscoll went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Ben Clausen had a double.
Friday
Hastings 11, Cheyenne Co. 0
Lance Schmidt and Ryan Kern combined to hold Cheyenne Co. to three hits with no walks in the game that was shortened to five innings. Alex Panganiban went 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs. Jamison Cockrell was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Avery Driscoll had a double.
